Kibana 4 reverse proxy and ssl configuration in kibana.yml

I have kibana 4.0.2, when I'm trying to configure kibana.yml to an nginx reverse proxy for elasticsearch -

    elasticsearch_url: "https://ES-VIP:443"

I get these errors from kibana and it fails to load -

    "message":"Authentication Exception","node_env":"production","error":{"message":"Authentication Exception","name":"Error","stack":"Error: Authentication Exception\n  at respond (/opt/kibana/src/node_modules/elasticsearch/src/lib/transport.js:235:15)\n  at checkRespForFailure (/opt/kibana/src/node_modules/elasticsearch/src/lib/transport.js:203:7)\n  at HttpConnector.<anonymous> (/opt/kibana/src/node_modules/elasticsearch/src/lib/connectors/http.js:156:7)\n  at IncomingMessage.bound (/opt/kibana/src/node_modules/elasticsearch/node_modules/lodash-node/modern/internals/baseBind.js:56:17)\n  at IncomingMessage.emit (events.js:117:20)\n  at _stream_readable.js:944:16\n  at process._tickCallback (node.js:442:13)\n"}}

What am I doing wrong?

I saw that there's an option to configure SSL certificate for Kibana4, is that relevant here?
